Welcome to the NH/VT Chapter of HFMA. As President for the 2008-2009 year, I hope to be able to meet many of our members at various events we’ll be holding throughout the year. I encourage you to check our Education Calendar listing for logistics about all the education events planned for the year.

We share a common Vision and Mission with HFMA National, and their website offers many resources to help inform members about various healthcare related topics. Collectively, all HFMA Chapters strive to be a valuable resource for Healthcare Finance professionals, and we hope to help our members and others in the healthcare field improve their business performance through our educational programs and networking opportunities.

This year the national theme is Making Connections, and our Board of Directors has been working to help identify new ways to help our membership do this. It seems that in an age when so much information is available via the Internet, finding ways for people to truly “connect” is more difficult and requires innovative thinking. With busy work and personal lives, and the increasing costs of transportation, we must continue to figure out how to provide meaningful networking opportunities, but perhaps in ways different from the past. I welcome any suggestions on how we might improve our Chapter’s ability to foster this.

Our Social Committee has been planning some new activities for our membership, and I encourage you to watch for announcements of upcoming events. The Education Calendar will list some of the activities already scheduled. These events are great ways to get to meet “colleagues” in the healthcare field and have some fun sharing experiences together.

In addition to our goals of providing helpful professional education and networking opportunities, HFMA also provides support in career development. A key part of this is our Certification Program, and I encourage anyone interested in learning more about this to go to the “career development” link on this website.

Finally, our Chapter is only as good as the volunteers that contribute so much to it. I hope anyone interested in becoming more involved with our Chapter will contact me or any other Officer, Board member, or Committee Chair. There are lots of ways to be involved, many of which don’t require much time commitment. And being involved in Chapter activities is a great way to ‘Make Connections’.
